Robert Morrell is professor at School of Education Studies, University of KwaZuluNatal, Republic of South Africa. He is an Open Position Fellow at GEXcel.
GEXcel Project
During my Open Position Fellowship I will work on and present a paper on Zulu masculinity and stickfighting. This has, as one of its key themes, reflections on what hegemonic masculinity looks like in the Zulu and South African contexts, and how this relates to international theoretical and conceptual debates. This specific research is a development of work with Dr Benedict Carton, Department of History and Art History, George Mason University, Virginia, US. It is planned to submit this paper to a refereed journal.
The stay also provides an opportunity to work on ongoing research on men's experiences of and reporting on sexuality, violence and sexual violence being conducted with Professor Rachel Jewkes, Director of the Gender and Health Research Unit, South African Medical Research Council, and meet with Tema Genus and Tema Barn colleagues on further the existing research collaboration between Sweden and South Africa.
